MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — State Sen. Vivian Davis Figures is dropping out of the running to lead the Alabama Democratic Party.
Figures announced Friday that that she is no longer running for party chairman. She had been part of a field of candidates seeking to unseat current chairwoman Nancy Worley.
Figures says it’s important for the state Democratic Party to have a full-time chairman, but felt it was imperative to keep her focus on the Alabama Legislature.
The Democratic National Committee ordered the Alabama party to conduct new elections after ruling there were procedural irregularities with Worley’s election in August
Tabitha Isner and Will Boyd have announced challenges to Worley. They both were Democratic nominees in last year’s election.
