Skeletal remains found in northeast Alabama woods

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (AP) — A homicide investigation is underway in Jackson County, Alabama, where skeletal remains were found in a wooded area.

Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen says cadaver dogs Wednesday searched the scene discovered after people walking in the area Tuesday saw a skull.

Sheriff Chuck Phillips said the bones appear to have been in the woods for years. reports an autopsy will be performed at the Department of Forensic Sciences. While authorities don’t yet have an identity, the sheriff says the body might be that of a man who went missing from a local assisted living home years ago.

The case is currently being investigated as a homicide.

The remains were found just two days after another unidentified body was discovered in the county on the edge of Robinson Creek.
